ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Julia.
I'm a political analyst working in Berlin, Munich and London. My research areas span West-Russia relations, NATO's nuclear strategy, as well as nuclear arms control, deterrence and disarmament in the Euro-Atlantic region.
Analysing - Presenting - Moderating
My analyses have been published widely in online and print media. I'm the co-editor of a book on emerging technologies (forthcoming in summer 2022), and currently writing my first book.
I have a track record of moderating and speaking in panel discussions, workshops and roundtables. My past achievements include a training for international diplomats on nuclear disarmament at the Federal Foreign Office; presentations at the CODE Blue Conference in Tokyo, the European Initiative for Security Studies (EISS), and the Minsk Dialogue Forum. Also, I had various public appearances with Deutsche Welle, Heinrich Böll Stiftung, Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, and SALON LUITPOLD.
Event Organisation
Over the past years, I organised & co-organised a variety of large and private events with high-ranking guests. This includes implementation of projects with the French, Canadian, Estonian and Italian Embassies in Berlin, the Finnish Embassy in Moscow, the Federal Foreign Office and Chancellor's Office - to name a few.
Engagement in Young Leaders Forums
I believe in the power of creating strong connections between emerging leaders from different geographical, cultural and professional backgrounds. In 2018, I became vice-chair and the coordinator of the Younger Generation Leader Network on Euro-Atlantic Security (YGLN) - an ambitious platform that brings European, Russian, Ukrainian, and North American experts together. I’m also a member of the Böll Stiftung's Forum Neue Sicherheitspolitik and an alumna of the Réseau nucléaire et stratégie - nouvelle génération (RNS-NG).
My Background = My Strength
My background in political sciences, journalism and communication sciences allows me to look at things from multiple perspectives, and taught me how to balance manifold projects at once.
During and in between my studies of political science (M.A./B.A.) and communication science (B.A.) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Vienna, and University of Hamburg, I have spent time in Cape Town, Brussels, and at the UN headquarters in New York, where I pursued different journalistic, research and civil society related projects.
While studying and during subsequent positions with the Munich Security Conference (MSC) and Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP), I balanced my work and engagements with different civil society campaigns, including as a German board member of the Nobel Peace Prize winning International Campaign for the Abolition of Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), as campaigner for Project for Democratic Union (PDU) and Parliamentarians for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (PNND).
Since October 2018, I'm a policy fellow with the European Leadership Network (ELN), a non-partisan, pan-European think tank based in London.
